Measuring Tape

Well here is a challenge I have just given myself. Topic …..measuring tape!
How can I write a blog on this subject. I might point out I sometimes throw my students something as crazy as this. I love how we all manage to rise to this challenge and what comes from it can be quite amazing.

Earlier today someone said I have always wanted to write a book someday.

My immediate reaction was ….good, start right NOW.

The reaction was BUT……BUT…..BUT….

Quickly I said no buts, no excuses, no nothing. Just start NOW.

Reaction …when I get home I will think about it but I have nothing to write about.

My response ……… well… taking out a piece of paper, I said “Write the first sentence NOW” I then disappeared for about 10 minutes. Returning, I found she had completed a whole paragraph! I asked for it to be read aloud. Wow, it was good although it was not obvious to the her. One big resistance was why anyone would want to hear this story. That was easy to overcome. This person has had some very unique and amazing things happen in her life.

So I sent her home with the task of completing the first chapter of her new book with only one instruction………NO EDITING, JUST WRITE!

Who knows where this will lead but at least she has finally started writing her book. I am thrilled for her and am sure it will be good.

Oh, one of her big objections was who will read it when it is done. Now I can relate to that one with this blog……….. Who knows as long as it is written!

What did the measuring tape have to do with all of this? Nothing, but it got me writing!
