“Every act of creation is first an act of destruction.”

One thing most of us have in common is……..we don’t like to destroy things.
But to make progress in anything we do have to destroy (re-create) the existing to create the new.
Nature does this too with storms, winds, fire, floods etc.
Somehow…………we need to see it for what it is……creating the new.
As an art teacher I have seen that when a student (or myself)
is able to “destroy” a work in progress something better ALWAYS emerges.
Often there are moments of doubt but eventually a much better artwork is created.

Yes… great insight!

With all due respect Robert my experience differs – as in architecture / city planning, I have found in my own art that it’s not always the case that destruction is followed by something better – I do wish it were so, but…
John I knew my statement “always better” could be challenged…… particularly in government / city planning / design etc. Often the change/ destruction just brings about something “different” not necessarily better……..at the time. However attitudes change and something that was once not regarded as having any value can become very valuable at a later date……..i.e. VanGogh’s art.
There must be a committment for something better for it to occurs.
