A new artwork where I discovered……….. Title : Vincent’s Unknown Wife
Mixed medium on A2 paper.
As an artist I have always been very close to Vincent, his art and his life. So imagine how shocked I was when this artwork emerged.
So I decided to follow it up. Everybody knowns so much about Vincent’s life but nobody knows about his secret wife.
I certainly do not, his very close brother Theo did not……….no mention anywhere. He did have a close relationship with a prostitute but I think I may have the answer.
Vincent fell deeply in love with his first cousin Kee Vos at one time in his short life. But for someone to even think about marriage to their own cousin in 19th century Holland was unthinkable so they pretended she rejected him and they married secretly without anybody knowing.
Also I found this article by Bonnie Butterfield about Vincent’s life which is most helpful

I purchased a huge book on him and his art and life but it was sealed. In my excitement of finding such a treasure I didn’t bother to notice that the text is totally in French. My language skills are quite limited so I will be using the illustrations at some point for my own artwork. DANG!
Thanks Lesley, I probably have that same book but the images more that make up for the text. I’m sure you will gain a lot from it.
For a long time I did not want Vincent to appear in my art………too powerful…..too emotional. But these days I just allow what is in me to come out…..hence the above image.
As long as we strive for the truth that is within us….. that is all that matters.
Vincent sure knew that.
Interesting theory and fabulous image of Ms Gogh…
John, so pleased you like Ms Gogh and I hope Vincent might have approved of the image too.
Wow. You really do research. Quite an interesting story and good image. Rlte
Thanks Silvia………who knows……if further investigation were carried out it COULD BE!
