This is a new painting which evolved. It is full of mystery and I wonder what it is wanting to express. Any ideas?

Sometimes we are compelled to photograph something that catches our eye. Such was the case during the week when this sky confronted me.

Someone was watching and wondering why I was photographing his litter box. I wondered too. But there was something about the light hitting the yellow bag and the way it touched the tray which immediately motivated me to capture it. Henry looked at me as if to say….. crazy photo Dad!

While I love the idea of all people on earth being ONE I can see how difficult this is by just looking at our time zones.
Where I am right now is morning of the 21st July. However many friends are in evening of the 20th July.
Now there’s a challenge.

Robert
Our little visitor, Ewok has now established himself as…….The Great Indiana Jones Ewok
He caught and ate his first mouse (sorry mouse) yesterday and is very proud of himself.
It reminds you how programmed instinctive behaviour is and although he is well fed has basic desires just below the surface.

Spotted recently was this sign…………..Smoke But Don’t Drink Here
It is amazing how our attitudes to drinking and smoking are always changing.
This very basic structure is beside a sports playing field. People who use it must feel like “lepers”
I like the international symbols for OK and NOT OK.

Here’s a……..Tree That Scored a Goal
at least…caught my eye.
I do like the swirling wispy clouds which echo the upper leaves on the tree.
Also the curvilinear structure of the tree against the human made rigid and static goal posts.
That’s why this tree scored a goal!….with me.

Hey….you guys at the back……pay attention. This is a…………..School for Ibis
That was the body language of these magnificent creatures found grouped together on a recent morning ride.
Unfortunately the once mighty Royal bird of Egypt….the Ibis is now a scavenger in this area.

This post introduces you to one of Australia’s most famous painters……Sidney Nolan OM, AC (1917 – 1992).
During his lifetime he became recognised as one of the foremost international modern artists.
In his youth during the 1940’s, Sidney painted his famous series of paintings inspired by the life of the Australian bushranger…. Ned Kelly.
He was knighted in 1981 and was awarded the Order of Merit in 1983.
Also he was made a Companion of the Order of Australia, elected an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters
and a member of The Royal Academy of Arts.
There is a permanent exhibition of his art at The Nolan Collection Gallery in Canberra.
Another photo from a morning ride……Titled – “Shadows and The Winding Path”
I love the way the shadows stretch out across the landscape forming distinctive patterns and shapes.
Also the contrast of the looping path in the distance against the angular fence-like shadows in the foreground excite me.
Probably the most powerful element of this image for me is being drawn into a center area
which invites you, beckons you to come inside
and discover what lies inside and beyond it…..maybe like the yellow brick road…..

There is a fresh fruit and vegetable etc. market every Sunday in Nerang from 6.30 – 11.00
Farmers from nearby Mt Tamborine and the Hinterland make their produce available.
It is very popular and I like to make it part of an early morning bike ride stop-over.

A little while back I posted several photographs of this peaceful spot on the Nerang River.
I have wanted to show the whole area but found it hard to do with photos.
So I decided to make a small movie and give you a 360 degree view…..in fact 2 x 360 degree views.
Please tell me what you think…..are you more “there” with the movie?

Another new artwork. Titled : “To Be, Or Not To Be”
Of course “to be, or not to be” is the famous opening phrase of a soliloquy in William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet.
Used as a title for this artwork it refers to the changing and elusive nature of the work.

It has been some time since they last appeared but this morning I saw the Sugar Bowl Cloud Watchers of Nerang dancing around celebrating this cloud formation.
They also wanted to say hello.

This post introduces you to one of Australia’s most famous painters……Brett Whiteley
Brett Whiteley, AO (7 April 1939 – 15 June 1992) He is one of Australia’s most revered artists. His lyrical expressionism and lack of inhibition placed him at the forefront of Australia’s avant-garde art movement. He won many prizes and awards and his work hangs in numerous galleries, including the National Gallery in Canberra, the Tate Gallery in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
He had many shows in his career, and lived and painted extensively in Italy, England, Fiji and the United States.
Here’s a link about his life and art…. http://australia.gov.au/about-australia/australian-story/brett-whiteley
In the seventies I lived just across the bay from Brett’s Lavender Bay home……where he painted the image above.
Since his death (age 53 years) his studio has been turned into a museum which is a popular place to visit in Sydney.

Ian Fairweather (29 September 1891 – 20 May 1974) was an Australian Painter.
Fairweather was born in Scotland in 1891 and arrived in Melbourne in February 1934.
He is considered one of the greatest Australian painters of all time, combining western and Asian influences in his work. (Wikipedia)
Fairweather was such an interesting man……..somewhat like Earnest Hemingway. He travelled the world and even sailed the high seas on a raft he built himself.
Whereas many painters want fame and success Fairweather was happy…… just to paint

I hope you will search for more info on his art and life.
This is a new edited photograph of ……….Footbridge and the Playing Fields
The little footbridge somehow reminded me of one of Vincent Van Gogh’s famous works
titled The Langlois Bridge at Arles. He did various versions of it.
There is no comparison between the two except that mine was subconsciously inspired by Vincent’s work.
Many of the details in my original photo were so small they were lost.
So I began editing it and this is the result.
For some reason I aim to put you…the viewer …..in the photo.
To let you move around in there….explore and feel part of the image.
