This post introduces you to one of Australia’s most famous painters……Brett Whiteley
Brett Whiteley, AO (7 April 1939 – 15 June 1992) He is one of Australia’s most revered artists. His lyrical expressionism and lack of inhibition placed him at the forefront of Australia’s avant-garde art movement. He won many prizes and awards and his work hangs in numerous galleries, including the National Gallery in Canberra, the Tate Gallery in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
He had many shows in his career, and lived and painted extensively in Italy, England, Fiji and the United States.

In the seventies I lived just across the bay from Brett’s Lavender Bay home……where he painted the image above.
Since his death (age 53 years) his studio has been turned into a museum which is a popular place to visit in Sydney.
