A One Hour Mini Vacation

Just 15 minutes from where I live is a different world. I had an appointment there yesterday and had a one hour wait time.

So I decided to have…………..A One Hour Mini Vacation

The sun, sand and fresh sea-breeze all contributed to make me feel I was on an exotic island a long way away.

There were sailboarders and kitesurfers soaring across the water.

It was magnificent……refreshing…..envigorating…..reviving!

Recommend if you can manage a one hour mini vacation…….TAKE IT!

The Way Is Clear

I wrote the following poem as a direct response to seeing how young people are behaving badly after much drinking late at night.

Blue skies delight but not at night

For they take flight

before midnight

The way is clear

except with much beer

for then the fog descends

Obscuring reason and lighting up stupidity

But like all things

the day begins

anew.

Feelings are clear

without much beer

and light the day and night

for all is good

without

the…. could

the… should, the ….would,

and fogs appear only at our choosing.

Morning Walk is now…….”Morning Ride”

Morning Ride

The morning walk has become the “morning ride”

Thanks to a generous person I was given an old but solid bike.

Today I tested it out and it was great.

I had forgotten how much I LOVE riding a bike.

In New York I did many trips on the Lower West Side down to Battery Park.

It always brings back memories of a joyful time.

Attitude Makes the Difference – Tony and His New Leg

Tony and His New Leg

Life can test us in many different ways.

But our ATTITUDE makes the difference in our acceptance of these tests.

About a year ago a friend Tony has his leg off above the knee.

He faced the whole experience with humour and never complained on the huge adjustment this required in his life.

On a recent visit he quietly reached forward and suddenly re-adjusted his leg.

He termed this…..”an ice breaker.”

Look What’s Happened to Cigarette Packets

Another found object on my morning walks. An empty cigarette packet.

Recently Australia made a first in cigarette packaging. It forced Cigarette Companies to use plain packaging and  remove their brand names.

As a non smoker it has never affected me but this empty packet did catch my eye.

Here you can see what one looks like and I guess it will be coming your way soon.

How things change.

In the 50’s, 60’s 70’s it was so cool to smoke. Now it is virtually a criminal act.

I can imagine the owner of this package throwing it away as soon as they could. I wonder if it will change their smoking habits.

For the smokers out there I have never made any judgement on you smoking. It is personal choice. However even when it was so “cool” to smoke I wondered why anybody would want to have that stuff going into their lungs.

Still I do think as we were coming into this world all of us were given something we have to confront in this lifetime.

Cigarettes, alcohol, food, weight, gambling, drugs, sex, money, power, tv, gaming, etc., etc.

All the stuff the movies are made of……. I believe it’s called LIFE.

Maybe here are a couple of alternatives…..nature, learning, exercise, pets and animals, reading, travel, hobbies, sport, love, joy, happiness……you can add more….

…..anything that makes you “feel” good.

Mine………. ART!!!!!!
