Work Zone
Recently captured this black and white image on a building site. The crane hovers in the background like a giant insect……
Title : Work Zone
Whenever I see workers I am reminded of Vincent Van Gogh’s workers in the fields……his diggers, reapers etc. Although today’s workers are high tech with the most amazing machinery at their disposal.
The man in Work Zone is attaching a huge crane to a 25 ton precast concrete slab which is about to be raised to form part of a wall section of a new building. Such things would have been science fiction in Vincent’s day.
What instantly caught my eye were the many distinct diagonals appearing even in the workers shirt. Then there is the manacing shadow, also another diagonal lurking in the background. Whilst mostly benefiting mankind there is always the threat of these mechanical monsters harming us.
These are some of the thoughts and feelings experienced as I worked with this image.
